Is Karl Lagerfeld a Luxury Brand?

Karl Lagerfeld isn’t cheap. Yet, its products are at a price point that’s more reachable compared to other fashion houses.

There were also times when Karl Lagerfeld himself brought his brand’s image to a lower market. An example of this was when he collaborated with H&M.

Because of this, many doubt if Karl Lagerfeld qualifies as high-end.

So, is Karl Lagerfeld a luxury brand?

The Quick Answer

Yes, Karl Lagerfeld is a luxury brand!

Now, I understand why some of you may be skeptical. Karl Lagerfeld is more affordable compared to Chanel and Fendi. Still, luxury is a subjective term.

Britannica defines luxury as the consumption of money for non-essential pleasures. In short, anything can be luxurious based on what someone can afford.

Of course, more factors come into play. The most significant reason why Karl Lagerfeld is a luxury brand is because of the designer!

Who Was Karl Lagerfeld?

Karl Lagerfeld, a designer born in 1933, is synonymous with high fashion.

He became the creative director of Fendi, Chloé, and Chanel back when these brands were struggling. Karl Lagerfeld turned these companies into the huge enterprises they are today!

In previous interviews, Karl Lagerfeld says luxury is all about your state of mind. It’s not simply buying expensive items. The products must be well-made and have a justifiable price.

These principles show in his brand as well.

Karl Lagerfeld Brand Ranking

The Karl Lagerfeld brand ranks nowhere near the top 15 luxury brands of 2024. However, its prices are higher than fast-fashion companies.

Currently, the brand is at the low end of the luxury market. This is intentional.

Karl Lagerfeld wanted to bring his designs to the masses. He never intended to compete with the big brands he designs for, hence the affordability.

For instance, you can buy a black Karl Lagerfeld bag for $700. Meanwhile, a similar bag at Chanel would be $2,500.

The answer to this is a resounding yes!

Designer brands have the backing of well-known fashion designers. Of course, the first designer of this brand is Karl Lagerfeld himself.

Originally, this store was where Karl Lagerfeld, the man who transformed the fashion industry, unleashed his ideas. It housed designs that didn’t fit into Chanel or Fendi images.

Karl Lagerfeld vs Karl Lagerfeld Paris

Is there a difference between Karl Lagerfeld and Karl Lagerfeld Paris? The short answer is yes, there is!

Karl Lagerfeld is where you can buy signature collections and high-end products. Meanwhile, Karl Lagerfeld Paris is the more affordable line.

Still, both brands feature the same aesthetic people associate with Karl Lagerfeld. These two branches also use identical images of the Karl Lagerfeld ponytail logos.

Is Karl Lagerfeld Paris a Luxury Brand?

Unlike the original Karl Lagerfeld, Karl Lagerfeld Paris isn’t a luxury brand for most. The latter offers bags in the $200 price range, which is below the usual prices at Karl Lagerfeld.

For clothing, the cheapest ones would be in the $70 range. You can buy faux fur coats for $400.

However, even though it isn’t a luxury brand, the styles and logos all pay homage to Karl Lagerfeld. What’s great about it is that Karl Lagerfeld Paris makes high-fashion accessible to all!

Is Karl Lagerfeld Paris a Good Brand?

Karl Lagerfeld Paris can be a hit or miss depending on who you’re talking to.

In terms of quality, yes, the brand sells well-made bags, shoes, accessories, and clothing. The only difference is it has more commercial-style clothing.

One downside may be that Karl Lagerfeld Paris seemingly slaps Karl’s face and name on every item. Some people see it as a celebration of the artist, while others say it doesn’t represent the designer’s style.

Personally, I think it’s a brand worth buying. Plus, I love that you can buy merchandise of Karl’s beloved cat, Choupette, at Karl Lagerfeld Paris.

And I have to say in this price category the quality is extremely good and can definitely keep up with other more expensive luxury brands, if not even better.

Even during his lifetime, Karl always attached great importance to exceptionally high quality at comparatively affordable prices with his own brand – and believe me, you can tell.

I have a few pieces from them and love them. The blazers in particular are almost tailor-made in terms of quality and cut – I’m not kidding.

You may want to check the online store out and decide if it’s good or not!
