And at this point, I would encourage you not to be afraid of color.
Just because we’re talking about a minimalist style here, doesn’t mean you can’t bring color into your looks.
Because again, the good thing is that since you have a sheer base, just about any color will go with the look. Therefore, don’t be afraid to buy a statement piece in your favorite color to create more interesting looks.
Still, when starting with colors, I would recommend you to start with earth tones, as they are very easy to mix and match.
Also, these colors suit any skin tone, which makes it even easier.
Shapes & Textures
Shapes:
Depending on your personal taste, you can play with these two ways:
1. The Traditional Way
This style is more about streamlined, well-fitted, and slim pieces.
2. The Modern Way
This style is obviously the modern one, as it uses more relaxed silhouettes and plays more with different shapes.
You probably already know this style very well from Pinterest, TikTok, or Instagram. For example, wide-leg trousers or oversized t-shirts, button-down shirts, or sweaters are often integrated into the looks.
But of course, that doesn’t mean you can’t combine both styles. Because this is actually a very good idea: especially as a feminine woman, only the second option can quickly look bulky and therefore I recommend you to mix these two styles.
For example, you can combine wide-leg pants wonderfully with a tight top and an oversized blazer.
Texture:
Now the texture is a great way to add more depth and detail to your outfit but in a subtle way.
The thing with texture is that normally someone won’t even notice it until they are up close and personal, but it’s a great way to add more interest to your overall style.
Layering & Accessories
A lot of the time, when we think of a minimal style, we think less is more which I completely do agree with.
However, don’t let that make you afraid to add layers and accessories to your outfits.
When adding layers to your outfit, and this mainly applies in more autumn/winter as we have more layers to work with, try to stick to the same tones as we mentioned earlier, as this will allow for a nice aesthetic and put-together flow through your entire look.
Now with accessories, don’t think you can’t have them. Just be intentional with them.
For example, with jewelry– I personally like to have 1 to 3 rings max spread across both hands.
One minimal necklace.
Bags, hats, and scarves: A nice guideline is to keep these in neutral colors. This will allow them to flow with the entire outfit and be subtle.
