Ngl, getting dressed for the office in fall feels harder than it should. One day it’s warm, the next it’s freezing, and the office temperature is never helpful either. I’ll try on like three outfits before giving up and reaching for whatever layers kind of work.
At some point I just started repeating the same combinations – comfy pants, soft sweater, decent boots, and a coat that makes it all look like I planned it. I didn’t. But no one has to know.
If you’re in that same “what do I even wear to work right now” phase – same. These are the outfits that actually work when you’re tired, it’s cold-ish, and you still need to look like a functioning adult.
Here are my absolute favorite autumn outfits office at the moment and I’m sure you’ll love them just as much as I do.
20+ Autumn Outfits Office You’ll Love
Striped Pullover + Black Suit Pants + Ankle Boots
I wore this exact combo during a client pitch once and felt quietly powerful. The stripes give it personality, the suit pants keep it sharp. Add coffee and you’re ready to conquer Q4.
Grey Pullover + Button-Down Shirt Underneath + Black Suit Pants
This is the outfit I reach for when I want to look like I read the Financial Times but still know how to style a sleeve roll. It’s minimal but impactful.
Brown Turtleneck Knit Pullover + Black Maxi Skirt + Ankle Boots
The black skirt adds structure, the brown knit brings warmth.
Bonus: ankle boots make everything feel grounded.
Classy Cream Top + Brown Leather Jacket + Big Scarf + Navy Straight-Leg Jeans
This outfit feels like a business trip to Milan, even if you’re just heading to your local co-working space.
Grey Suit Pants + Heels + White Shirt + Black Tweed Jacket
Channeling Coco Chanel without trying too hard.
Cream Mom Jeans + Black Ballet Flats + Brown Knit Vest
This outfit gives “creative team lead with a soft spot for matcha.” I once wore this on a Friday and got promoted the following Monday. Coincidence? Possibly. Worth repeating? Definitely.
Black Longsleeve + Straight-Leg Jeans + Brown Wool Short Coat
This one’s a weekday warrior. The coat gives it polish, the jeans make it wearable.
Light Blue Button-Down + Blue Tweed Jacket + Black Suit Pants
I wore this during a rainy Monday and felt like the most pulled-together person on the 8:15 train. Tweed is always a good idea. Especially in blue.
Striped Blue Button-Down Shirt + Sweater Over Shoulders + Black Straight-Leg Pants
This outfit says “I’m chill, but I get things done.” The sweater-over-shoulders trick? Always makes it look intentional. I once wore this to a Monday meeting and didn’t need caffeine to feel confident.
Green Sweater + Black Pants + Black Ankle Boots
Green adds just the right hint of personality while staying workplace-friendly.
Burgundy Long Sleeve Cardigan + Black Straight-Leg Trousers + Black Woven Bag
This is peak autumn office. That rich burgundy is basically a power move.
Black Satin Skirt + Black Turtleneck Longsleeve + Brown Blazer
This is your evening meeting hero. The satin gives it that just-polished-enough edge, the blazer tones it down.
Brown Suit Pants + Striped Satin Button-Down Blouse + Brown Adidas Sambas
Corporate meets cool. The Sambas keep it grounded, the satin shirt keeps it chic. I wore this on a site visit and it worked with everything – pavement, people and personality.
Grey Wool Vest + White Shirt + Black Trousers
This outfit could do a TED Talk. It’s sharp, simple and seriously stylish. I wore it during a team presentation and felt like I’d never fumble a slide again.
Beige Wool Sweater + Brown Trousers + White Shirt Underneath
This is a warm hug disguised as office attire. Autumn layering at its cosiest and best.
Mom Jeans + Black Ballet Flats + White Shirt + Brown Plaid Blazer
This gives “creative copywriter with a meeting at 10 and croissant by 11.” The blazer adds structure to otherwise easy pieces.
Black High-Leg Boots + Grey Plaid Blazer + Leggings + Black Longsleeve
This look is fashion-forward but still very much office-friendly. I wore this on a chilly Wednesday and walked like I owned the building. Leggings to work? Only if you style them like this.
Brown Wool Sweater + Brown Satin Maxi Skirt + White Ballet Flats
Soft, tonal and quietly sophisticated. I wore this during performance review season and felt like the best version of myself. Ballet flats for the win, always.
FAQ:
What should I wear to the office in fall?
Something that works for weird weather. I like to go for loose trousers, soft knits, maybe a blazer or trench over the top.
Basically anything you can layer or adjust during the day. If it looks clean and feels comfortable, you’re set.
What is the 3-3-3 rule for clothes?
You pick 3 tops, 3 bottoms, 3 pairs of shoes, and that’s your mix-and-match for the week (or longer).
It helps if you’re overwhelmed or just don’t want to think too much. Less pieces, fewer decisions, and weirdly – more outfits.
What does Gen Z wear to the office?
Depends where they work, but you’ll usually see relaxed fits – wide-leg pants, oversized button-downs, chunky loafers or clean sneakers. It’s polished, but not stiff. Definitely more casual than past generations, but still intentional.
What should I wear to work in October?
Anything that layers easily tbh. It’s too warm for full winter clothes but too cold for bare legs.
Go with trousers, a thin sweater or long sleeve shirt, and a midweight jacket or blazer. If you commute, weatherproof shoes are a smart idea too.
